The cinema camera manufacturer RED is now launching the cinema cameras V-Raptor X and V-Raptor X XL with a sensor that features a global shutter. We have written quite a bit about the global shutter in connection with the release of the new Sony A9 III, which offers several advantages for video.

Both the X and XL cameras use a 35.4 megapixel CMOS sensor with a global shutter measuring 40.96x21.6mm, which is larger than full-frame. The diagonal is a full 46.3mm, allowing for the recording of 17:9 video in 8K/60p in Apple ProRes 4444 XQ at its best. The camera also supports ProRes 4444/422 HQ/422 LT.

Both cameras have a built-in ND filter adjustable in third-stop increments between 2-7 EV-steps. Both cameras' sensors are capable of delivering up to 17 stops of dynamic range, but with the 'Extended Highlights' feature, it should be possible to record video equivalent to a full 20 stops.
