Fujifilm Fujinon GF 500mm F5.6 R LM OIS WR - Longest Focal Length to Date

Fujifilm's new medium format GF lens achieves the longest focal length to date in Fujifilm's GFX series.

Published

Fujifilm's medium format system - GFX - continues to expand, this time with both the new camera GFX100S II and a telephoto lens equivalent to a 396mm field of view in full-frame format. Fujinon GF 500mm F5.6 R LM OIS WR thus becomes the next lens after the 2023 releases of GF 55mm F1.7 R, GF 30mm F5.6 TS and GF 110mm F5.6 TS.

The lens is driven by a linear focus motor, and the autofocus can be limited in its range or memorize a focus distance. There are four buttons in total to lock or activate the autofocus.

The optical design consists of 21 lens elements in 14 groups with five ED lens elements that minimize spherical aberration with higher image sharpness from center to edge. Two super-ED lens elements counteract chromatic aberration. The aperture has 9 blades for soft rendering of subjects out of focus.

The Fujinon GF 500mm features built-in image stabilization that compensates up to six stops. The weight is 1,375 grams. The lens is also weather-sealed and the front lens element has a water-repellent fluorine coating. The included tripod mount is compatible with Arca-Swiss.

The lens can be used together with the teleconverter Fujinon GF 1.4X TC WR to achieve a 700mm focal length, or the equivalent field of view of 554mm in full-frame format.

The recommended price is 46,999 kronor including VAT. The lens will be available from June 2024.
