Sigma now announces that they will release six of their DC DN APS-C lenses for Canon's RF mount (actually RF-S as they are in APS-C format). With the license for manufacturing, Sigma becomes one of the first to do so with lenses that have working autofocus.
The Contemporary series from Sigma is already available for several other mounts: Sony E, Fujifilm X, and Leica L-Mount, with three of the four f/1.4 lenses also available for Nikon Z and MFT.

The lineup concerns six lenses to be released during 2024. The first is the 18-50mm which is planned to be released in July, followed by five lenses to be released from the fall of 2024 and onwards:
Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary (equivalent to 29-80mm in full frame)
Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary (16-29mm)
Sigma 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary (25mm)
Sigma 23mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary (37mm)
Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary (48mm)
Sigma 56mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary (90mm)

There has been much talk about Canon's strategies for how or when the mount would be opened up for additional manufacturers to allow users to use third-party lenses with autofocus for Canon's RF mount, where Samyang was first out in 2019.

With the licensing, autofocus, image stabilization, and aberration compensation in the camera body will be available, which does not work on lenses without communication between the lens and camera body.
