Samsung Galaxy S24, S24 Plus & Ultra released: features built-in generative AI

Samsung today unveils the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24, marking the beginning of a new era by introducing mobile experiences with Galaxy AI1. With the help of AI, several aspects of mobile usage are enhanced and simplified – from communication, with smart text and call translations, to creative possibilities with Samsung Galaxy's ProVisual Engine. Moreover, a new standard for searches is set with the potential to change how Samsung Galaxy users discover the world around them.

Make everyday experiences extraordinary

Galaxy AI offers intelligent features aimed at simplifying daily life, especially when it comes to communication. With Galaxy S24, it becomes easier to overcome language barriers. Whether you want to chat with a study buddy or colleague from abroad, or book a table while on holiday, Live Translate2 enables two-way translations of conversations and text in real-time – directly in the phone's own app. No external apps are required, and AI in the device ensures that conversations remain private. 

With the Interpreter function, conversations can be translated directly on a shared screen, so that people facing each other can read a text transcription of what the other person has said. The function also works without mobile data or Wi-Fi. For messages and other applications, Chat Assist can help to fine-tune the conversation tone, such as creating a polite message to a colleague or a short and captivating caption suitable for social media3. Samsung's keyboard, equipped with AI technology, also enables quick real-time translation of messages in 13 languages4. In the car, Android Auto5 automatically summarizes incoming messages and suggests relevant responses and actions, such as sending your estimated time of arrival. All to enable you to stay connected easily and smoothly while keeping full focus on driving. 

To organize more efficiently, Note Assist6, in Samsung Notes, offers AI-generated summaries and the ability to create templates with preset formats. With the cover function, simple overviews are created for quick identification of notes. Transcript Assist7 uses AI and speech-to-text technology to transcribe, summarize, and translate voice recordings, even when multiple speakers are involved.

Communication is not the only area where the Galaxy S24 series is evolving for the future. With Circle to Search with Google8 in Galaxy S24, steps are taken towards a new, intuitive, and gesture-based way to search online. This tool, developed in collaboration with Google, enables new ways to discover with a simple gesture. By long-pressing the home button, users can highlight or tap items on the screen to get relevant search results. This facilitates quick information searches directly in apps. A beautiful landmark in the background of a friend's social media post or a surprisingly fun fact in a video can quickly be turned into a search. Moreover, comprehensive overviews provide additional information and context gathered from across the web, and users can ask more complex and nuanced questions.

Explore the world in new ways with creativity at the forefront

The Galaxy S24 series' ProVisual Engine9 is a collection of AI-driven tools that transform and maximize creative freedom at every step of the image capture process. From capturing the image to sharing it on social media. Shaky and pixelated images taken from afar are a thing of the past. With the Galaxy S24 Ultra's Quad Tele System and the new 5x optical zoom lens, in collaboration with a 50MP sensor, optical quality is achieved at zoom levels from 2x, 3x, 5x to 10x10 magnification thanks to Adaptive Pixel Sensor. Even at a strong digital zoom of 100x, images remain sharp and detailed, thanks to the camera's enhanced technology for digital zoom that helps to improve image quality at high zoom levels.

With upgraded Nightography features, photos and videos taken with the Galaxy S24 Space Zoom are optimized in all conditions, even when zooming in. The Galaxy S24 Ultra captures more light in low light conditions with larger pixels of 1.4 μm, which are 60% larger compared to the previous model11.

Blur is reduced on the Galaxy S24 Ultra with wider angles for optical image stabilization (OIS) and improved compensation for hand shaking. During video recording, both front and rear cameras are equipped with dedicated ISP blocks for noise reduction. Additionally, the Galaxy S24 analyzes gyro information to distinguish between the movements of the filmer and the subject. This enables more effective noise reduction and clear videos in the dark, even at long distances.

Once you have taken your pictures, the Galaxy S24 offers innovative editing tools for easy adjustments such as erasing, recomposing, and enhancing images. To further facilitate and streamline editing, the Edit Suggestion13 feature suggests smart and appropriate adjustments for each image. To give users even more creative control and freedom, Generative Edit14 can fill in parts of the image background using generative AI. If an image is skewed, for example, AI can fill in the edges, or if an object needs to be moved to another position, AI lets the user adjust the object's placement and creates a perfectly blended background at the object's original location. Each time the Galaxy S24 uses generative AI to enhance an image, a watermark is displayed on the image and in the image's metadata. To slow down action-packed video clips, new Instant Slow-mo generates additional frames based on movements to smoothly slow down fast events and create a detailed slow-motion video.

Capturing and sharing memories are fundamental functions of a mobile phone. Super HDR in the Samsung Galaxy S24 series enhances the entire photo experience. Among other things, by previewing the images before they are taken. Samsung Galaxy's S-series advanced camera and Super HDR features are now integrated into several popular social media apps. This means that images and videos shared via these apps are automatically optimized with HDR, which improves image and video quality in the apps15. When searching for a picture in the Gallery or on Instagram's feeds and reels, photos and videos are also displayed in Super HDR. This technology analyzes selected parts of the images to give them a more realistic spectrum of brightness, color, and contrast.

Samsung Galaxy's smartest experience ever, powered by premium performance

As AI becomes an increasingly important part of many people's daily lives, improved performance is also required to meet the new demands that the use of the features entails. Whether it's for advanced gaming, demanding video recording and editing, or switching between multiple apps, the Galaxy S24 offers an optimized experience, thanks in part to improvements in chipset16 and display. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is equipped with the Snapdragon® 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy17, specially optimized for Samsung Galaxy users. This chipset provides significant NPU improvements for highly efficient AI processing. In all three Galaxy S24 models, adaptive refresh rates of 1-120 Hz also contribute to improved efficiency and performance.

The gaming experience on Samsung Galaxy has been enhanced with upgrades in both hardware and software. The Galaxy S24 Ultra has an advanced thermal control system with a vapor chamber18 nearly twice the size, which effectively manages the device's temperature while maintaining high performance. With ray tracing technology, it delivers lifelike graphics with detailed shadows and reflections.

Furthermore, partnerships with leading gaming companies provide access to optimized versions of several popular games. The image quality on Samsung Galaxy's brightest screen ever is more vivid and captivating19. With the help of Vision Booster, the Galaxy S24 reaches a peak brightness of 2,600 nits, which improves visibility outdoors.

On the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the screen has been improved both optically and in terms of resistance to damage and scratches that can occur in everyday life, thanks to Corning® Gorilla® Armor20. It reduces reflected light by up to 75% in various conditions, ensuring a smooth and comfortable viewing experience for the eye. In the entire Galaxy S24 series, design improvements have been made with thinner and more tapered edges. This design change has enabled a larger screen area within almost the same size range as previous models21.

The Galaxy S24+ now has a 6.7-inch screen with the same high-resolution QHD+ as the Galaxy S24 Ultra, while the Galaxy S24 has a 6.2-inch screen. The Galaxy S24 Ultra stands out with a flatter 6.8-inch screen, designed to maximize both visual experience and productivity.
