"Instagrammers: Go to bed" – new feature warns young people

Are you an Instagrammer, young and addicted to social media? Don't worry – the app now reminds you to sleep if you don't go to bed on time.

Camera & Image has previously written quite a bit about mental health issues linked to social media, including cyberbullying, constant demands for feedback and the pursuit of both followers and likes. At the same time, Meta, which owns Instagram and Facebook, has been criticised for not doing enough. 

However, Meta has now announced that it has addressed the issue with young people skipping sleep in favour of social media: a new feature for those using Instagram will show a message every ten minutes in the evening suggesting that it's time to put down the phone and go to bed.
