Laowa releases new lens series: Nanomorph 1.5X Anamorphic

The lens manufacturer Venus Optics, which releases lenses under the Laowa brand, is now launching a new series of anamorphic lenses.

The Nanomorph 1.5X Anamorphic Zoom Series is a new series of cinema lenses from Laowa. Initially, a 28-55mm T2.9-T22 and a 50-100mm T2.9-T22 will be released. As the name suggests, the lenses have a so-called "squeeze ratio" or compression ratio, of 1.5x.

The lenses are compatible with Arri PL, Sony E, Canon RF, Nikon Z, Fuji X, and L-Mount. Both lenses offer a 1.6x zoom capability. The minimum focusing distances are 0.45m and 0.8m, respectively. The lenses are compatible with Laowa's 1.33X Front Anamorphic adapter to support conversion to 2x anamorphic.

By filming with anamorphic lenses that compress the image, one can achieve a wider image that is then stretched out in post-production.

An exact Swedish price is not available, but they will start selling for around under 3000 dollars on March 1, 2024, equivalent to around 33,000 Swedish kronor.
