Press Release: NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR SUPERZOOM LENS FOR ALL-ROUND USE WITH A HIGHLY VERSATILE ZOOM RANGE OF 14.2×

Stockholm, Sweden, 27 March 2024: Today, Nikon is pleased to announce a new zoom lens in the Z series – NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR. With an incredible 14.2× zoom in a compact and lightweight body, you can keep this highly versatile superzoom lens mounted on your Nikon Z camera and always be ready for the photographic opportunities that come your way! Wide-angle landscapes, street shots, telephoto action images and even close-ups of nature – it's truly a lens for all occasions.

With its compact dimensions and weighing just 725 g, you won't have to think twice before packing this 14.2× zoom lens in your bag or even keeping it attached to a Nikon Z camera when you head out. The enormously versatile focal length range gives you 28 mm at the wide-angle end, 400 mm at the super-telephoto end – and everything in between. Users who want to have more creative possibilities in low-light situations or with fast-moving subjects can benefit from the built-in optical Vibration Reduction (VR) of 5.0 stops, which increases to 5.5 stops when the lens is mounted on a Nikon Z camera with synchronized VR capability.1,2 In addition, the lens uses Nikon's fast, quiet stepping motor for autofocus, which ensures users can easily find focus even when the subject is moving quickly.

The all-round NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR lens not only allows you to shoot with wide angles and at long distances. With a minimum focusing distance of just 0.2 m at 28 mm and 1.2 m at 400 mm3, it can truly be said that this superzoom lens loves close-ups! The maximum reproduction ratio is 0.35×, enabling you to compose incredibly detailed images of smaller subjects and reproduce them at nearly half their actual size. The lightweight superzoom lens is also not particularly sensitive when it comes to the weather: with reliable sealing around the mount and all moving parts, the user can make the most of every trip, every walk, and all kinds of light.

Zurab Kiknadze, Product Manager at Nikon Europe, says: "Our new NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR lens is the lightest lens in the NIKKOR Z series that goes all the way to 400 mm. And it's easier to handle than a fixed focal length super-telephoto lens. It's perfect for those who just want to carry one lens and still be ready for all photo opportunities, near or far."

VR up to 5.5 stops: 5.0 stops1 built-in optical Vibration Reduction counteracts shaking, so you can capture sharp images even in low light. Together with a Nikon Z camera with synchronized VR, the compensation extends to 5.5 stops.2

Great at close range: the minimum focusing distance is just 0.2 m from the subject in the wide-angle part and 1.2 m away when you zoom to 400 mm.3 A maximum reproduction ratio of 0.35× enables fantastic close-ups.

Reliable autofocus: Nikon's fast and quiet stepping motor ensures you quickly find focus and makes focusing almost noiseless.

Nikon's acclaimed ergonomics: the silent control ring can be customised and a zoom lock prevents the lens from extending accidentally.

Sealed and ready for adventure: the reliable sealing around the mount and all moving parts prevents dust and water droplets from entering the lens housing.

Square lens hood: the included lens hood has a striking square design. It can be reversed to save space when storing the lens, and it is possible to shoot with the lens hood in the reversed position.
