Sony FE 16-25mm F2.8 G - Wide-Angle Zoom with Low Weight

The bright full-frame lens for Sony weighs 409 grams and is suitable for both video and still photography.

Sony releases a new wide-angle zoom lens for full-frame - Sony FE 16-25mm F2.8 G - which is designed to maintain both high precision in autofocus as well as speed in continuous focusing of fast-moving subjects.

The size and design are roughly the same as the recently released Sony FE 24-50mm F2.8 G, which the new lens is positioned under in terms of focal length. The filter diameter and controls are also laid out in the same way, which facilitates the use of a gimbal when changing lenses.

The weight is 409 grams, made possible by the three ED lens elements and four aspherical lens elements, which also remove aberrations. The lens has 11 rounded aperture blades, a minimum focusing distance of 0.18 m. The autofocus is driven by dual linear motors that provide high focus adjustment up to 120 frames per second, which is necessary for, for example, burst shooting with the new Sony A9 III.

The lens also has the capability for linear manual focus, reduction of focus breathing, and is compatible with Sony camera's image stabilization settings for "Active Mode". It is also possible to switch between clicks for the aperture ring.

The lens is weather-sealed and the front lens has a fluorine coating that protects against dirt. The filter diameter is 67 mm.

The Sony FE 16-25mm F2.8 G will be available from May at a recommended price of 16,500 Swedish kronor including VAT.
