Drone manufacturer DJI releases the new Avata 2, an updated version of their 2022 FPV (First Person View) drone Avata. The improvements are related to the newly designed DJI Goggles 3 and the DJI Motion 3 controller. The resolution is 12 megapixels.

DJI Goggles 3 have been upgraded with micro-OLED for better image and higher resolution, with the possibility of what's called Real PiP, meaning a real-world picture-in-picture, which allows you to see your surroundings as well as the drone's camera view in the goggles.

New are three control possibilities through "flip", "roll", and "one push 180-degree drift", which can provide dramatic effects for your recorded videos.

The sensor is larger than its predecessor's - DJI Avata 2 features a 1/1.3 inch sensor capable of filming with a 155-degree field of view, and video in up to 4K/60p HDR. Slow motion is recorded in 2.7K/100p and the drone also has a 10-bit D-Log M color mode for better videos suitable for post-processing.

The flight time is 23 minutes and the battery supports PD charging. The image transmission has a range of 13 kilometers and the latency is then 24 ms at 1080/100fps. The maximum transmission speed is 60 megabits. The internal memory is 46 gigabytes. The weight is 377 grams.

The drone is available from today. The DJI Avata 2 Fly More Combo (one battery) costs 11,799 kronor and includes the DJI Avata 2, DJI Goggles 3, and DJI RC Motion 3.

The DJI Avata 2 Fly More Combo (three batteries) costs 13,999 kronor and includes the DJI Avata 2, DJI Goggles 3, and DJI RC Motion 3, a two-way charging hub, two extra batteries, and a sling bag.

DJI Avata 2, Goggles 3 and RC Motion 3 give new FPV pilots professional flying skills

DJI launches DJI Avata 2 and accompanying equipment that provides immersive flying experiences and intuitive control that simplifies turns, dives, and maneuvers.

April 11, 2024 - DJI, the market leader in civilian drones and innovative camera technology, introduces today the DJI Avata 2. The new drone offers experiences where excitement is at the forefront - without compromising safety. Users can immerse themselves in an enhanced FPV (First Person View) flying experience, an upgraded camera sensor that delivers higher image quality, and even longer flight time.

"Just under two years ago, we helped people explore the out-of-body experience that is FPV flying. DJI Avata 2 builds on this by giving everyone the chance to fly like a pro with simple flips, rolls, and drifts. We look forward to giving users one of the best FPV experiences available, without requiring much effort," says Ferdinand Wolf, Creative Director at DJI.

DJI Avata 2 is made to be combined with the new DJI Goggles 3 and DJI RC Motion 3.

DJI Goggles 3 feature adjustable 'diopters', two micro-OLED screens that complement the improved 10-bit screen with a refresh rate of up to 100 Hz and ultra-low latency. The goggles are equipped with a binocular camera that shows the surroundings, so users can easily be aware of what's happening around them while watching live images from the drone. This 'Real World PiP' (Picture in Picture) technology enhances both the experience and safety.

Simple ACRO with DJI RC Motion 3

By combining DJI Avata 2 with DJI Motion 3, even new pilots have the ability to perform turns, dives, and other advanced aerial acrobatics. So whether you're hovering, diving, or rolling through the air, you can capture epic footage with a simple press of the RC Motion 3 joystick.

• One-Push Flip: Perform forward and backward loops and make 360-degree movies

• One-Push Roll: Add horizontal magic to movies with 360-degree rolls to the right/left.

• One-Push 180 Degree Drift: Create dramatic visual effects with slides that spin 180 degrees at high speed.

Enhanced image quality

DJI Avata 2 has a larger sensor than its predecessor. The new 1/1.3-inch CMOS Super-Wide-Angle camera with 12 Mp provides a better dynamic range - even in low light. The ultra-wide-angle lens has a viewing angle of up to 155° and captures a unique perspective that differs from traditional drone images.

Stability - even in the air

With the help of a stability algorithm and DJI's stabilization technology, DJI Avata 2 guarantees sharp and stable recordings even during the most intense maneuvers. With DJI RockSteady, you avoid shaky images due to wind, high speed, or wild maneuvers because it locks focus on the horizon - even during sharp turns, rolls, and deep dives. And when the EIS setting is turned off, Avata 2 supports Gyroflow so that the footage can be further stabilized during editing.

Safety first (and beyond)

The integrated propellers of Avata 2 have been improved - even in terms of weight. Since they are lighter, it is smoother to navigate in tight spaces. And for safety reasons, the user can stop the drone with a single press of the RC Motion 3 if necessary. It is also possible to use the 'return to home' function if the battery is running low or if the signal is lost.

Now it is also possible to fly at lower altitudes and indoors with the help of new Binocular Fisheye sensors that provide more stability and safety during difficult flights.

If the user happens to land the drone on its back, there is now a 'turtle mode' that allows it to turn itself over so that it can continue flying or return home.

To infinity and beyond - with longer flight time

Avata 2 has a flight time of up to 23 minutes and supports fast charging so that it can quickly be back in the air. In addition, the drone has a Two-Way Charging Hub with a power collection function. This means that the power in the batteries is collected in the battery that has the most power, so that there is an 'extra battery' when needed.

The new O4 video transmission provides up to 13 km transmission distance1, transmission latency down to 24 ms, 1080p/100 fps HD image quality, and a bitrate of up to 60 Mbps. The construction with two transmitters, four receivers, and four antennas also guarantees interference-free transmission, so that pilots can concentrate on the flight without worry.

Share video with friends? DJI Goggles 3 has a live feed that is displayed in the app and can be transferred to another device up to 5 meters away. The recordings can also be shared with a cable via 'Audience mode'.

Record and edit easily

Avata 2 has 46 GB of memory and can store about 90 minutes of 1080p/60 fps video, and the user can of course connect to Wi-Fi so that no moments are lost.

VFX with LightCut

When DJI Avata 2 is connected via Wi-Fi to the LightCut app, it is possible to add Sky VFX to the recording based on the route recorded. This way, you do not need to download the film material and the editing can be done directly in the app.

Better compatibility

The new DJI Goggles 3 and RC Motion 3 are also available for Air 3 and Mini 4 Pro. Pilots with Goggles 3 can also use the traditional controllers they already have, such as RC 2 and RC-N2, to control the drone.
